It is the executive body of the Union. The Commission exercises its own powers conferred on it by the Treaty for the proper functioning and general interest of the Union.

It is composed of members, numbering eight (08), called Commissioners, nationals of the Member States. They are appointed by the Conference of Heads of State and Government, one per State, for a four-year term, renewable.

 
COMMISSION PRESIDENCY

  • Directs and coordinates the functioning of the Commission's services;

  • Ensures liaison, in terms of general policies, with the Governments and political authorities of the UEMOA Member States, the other bodies of the Union as well as with the autonomous specialized institutions and external partners of the Union; 

  • Ensures the representation of the commission in relations with third countries, international organizations, and institutions.

INTEGRATION PROJECTS

The various projects of the UEMOA integration process are conducted within the Commission's Departments, under the responsibility of a Commissioner.

The Commissioner directs and coordinates the action of the Directions and Divisions that make up the Department for which he/she is responsible.

By delegation of the President of the Commission, he/she exercises hierarchical authority over the personnel of his/her Department.

In relation to the President of the Commission, the Commissioner can, in his/her area of competence, maintain regular relations, particularly of a technical nature, with external partners of the Union.
